The Long Drive, Darwin to Litchfield National Park

 Oct 4

I left Darwin making my way to Berry Springs, Laurie had told me to go and have a look, it is well worth while. Laurie has travelled all over Australia and quite frankly I do not think there is many places that he has not been, including dirt roads. He gave me much information on places to visit especially in the Northern Territory.

Berry Springs was exceptional, quite beautiful, shallow and dip pools for the swimmers.

My next stop was Walker Creek a 1.5 km walk so I chose not  go and have a look as I could of melted in the heat.

My next port of call was Wangi Falls a very busy place with many people, and hired motor-vans tour operators all filled up the large car park. Far too crowded for me so I moved on.

I went to Tolmer Lookout a short walk but well worth the effort.

Yet another one on the list Buley Rockhole, this was quite spectacular even though a hundred and one young people were at the pools. The School Holidays, no wonder, every where was crowded. I went in for a dip with all my clothes on, they needed to have a wash.

Finally Florence Falls a short walk to the look out but then if you wanted to take a dip you had rather a long walk and you are met with many steps. Time I sorted out my night stop, I went to the Campsite;  no Generators so I promptly turned around and headed off for the Termite Mound, a great place to stop for the night and no sings to say no camping.

I had a lovely quite night no noise from traffic or people getting up early to go to work in there cars. I had my generator running to charge up my computer it got rather flat downloading this blog in Batchelor, right outside Big4 caravan park.  I got good reception there and every thing was going well. I did not dare chance putting my generator on, only last time I parked out side a Big4 I was told to move on and then even though I had paid for the internet with them, so no Big4 parks for me any more.

I headed off to Adelaide River turning off on the old road ’23’ to Douglas Hot Springs; good choice lovely route just right for a Morgan.

I got to Douglas Hot Springs on a 8 km dirt road, a few people were camping I tried out the shower unit; rather a lack of water I would say. The water in the Springs was next to none not even enough to paddle a canoe in.

I did not think the trip was worth the effort but then I can say, I have been there and done that.
