Up early to go and have a look at Katherine Gorge very good camp site with a pool and a power hookup. I was in two minds wether to stay the night or not. First I took a walk to a lookout as the air was still cool. The walk was quite lovely at the top I was talking to a group of youngsters from foreign parts. Took in the view with canoes paddling down the river. After I had a good look around I found out the prices of all the activities including boat trips and air flights I decided to move on, my pocket would not stand it. I had invested in a Freezer which is far more practicable, cold drinks on the move.

Katherine Gorge |
In to Katherine topped up with diesel had a dip in the Hot Springs this time the water was rather stirred up by many young boys playing and stirring up the bottom of the pool.
I took off on my journey towards WA I was going to stop at a free camp but decided it was too early to camp up for the night and too hot so on I went to the next spot no shade at all so off I went not another site for miles and no pull offs or rest area’s I drove through Gregory N.P and what fantastic scenery, words cannot describe. It was like driving through a wide cannon with hills to both sides of you and in the front as well. Unfortunately there was really no places to pull off and admire the views. Picnic spots were non existent and if any, the sign posts had been demolished. I looked in my Camps6 for a night stop great just past Timber Creek there was one at a lookout. I pulled in at Timber creek for fuel I did not like this place at all, I retreated at a great rate of knots. I pulled up at the lookout, No camping, what a bummer still I drove the 2 km to the look out and it was magnificent. A monument had been erected for the soldiers of the last war defending the territory against the Japanese, flag pole and all. I did not think it right to stop for the night so off I went with my lights on. Another look out just down the road with no signs, I stopped and I was relieved to find a good place. In hindsight I should of camped at Limestone Creek and took my time driving through the N.P but then we are wiser after the event.
This part of the Northern Territory does not seem to like travellers. I had the same comments from other travellers.

Saddle Creek Rest Area |
I reached Lake Argyle checked out the camp site a good site, but then I found an excellent spot just down the road, very shady and cool among the rocks where I could walk around in the noddy and please myself. Unfortunately there is no phone reception around these parts.

Lake Argyle |
I was just in time to take an evening boat trip on the Lake over a $100 with camping so I decided to omit, as I would have been back too late to set up my little camp site. I would however throughly recommend a visit to Lake Argyle.
