The Long Drive, Ravenshoe, Gilbert River, Karumba, Maggleville

Sept 13
Stayed put on site, cleaned up Plod and relaxed.
Sept 14
Off early as that Cockerel woke me very early.  There was a heavy dew so I took the trouble to wipe down Plod. Not far from were I stayed was a lovely camp site with hot springs it would have been worth staying there instead if I had known, clean and very friendly. No mention of it in Camps6

Hot Springs

The Savannah Way is a very good Road and we plodded on quite merrily no steep hills.
I saw a sign to Undara Volcanic Lava Tubes so I went to have a look; the tour was 2 hours long and at a cost of $45 so I gave it a miss. I looked at the post cards instead. Stopped at the Historic site Cumberland Chimney; good to stop for the night but to many other places to visit on my way.  I went to Gilbert River pull off.

My Night Stop

Sept 15
On my way again to Normanton; filled up with Diesel at Croydon, just an average outback town with a pleasant lady in the garage. Apparently there is no Doctor in town and if you have an emergencey the flying Doctor might eventual arrive if you are lucky. When you are having your babies its a trip in to Ingham or where you have relatives you can stay with and that will be a month before the baby is due. After we put the world to rights I went on my way. Stopped in at the visitors center to get the run down not much joy there again. Filled up with water from a day site. Chatted to another couple, again I have been noticed with my very unusual Plod, I get tooted up now and again. Went on to Karumba to see the sea. (No free camping anywhere around Karumba or Normanton that is what they think). Chatting away to two ladies about travelling and got a few good tips. Had to go as it will soon be dark; I parked up in a pull off I saw on my way up and what a grand place it is. Another single real camper Wayne came over to say hi, and we consumed a few beers.

My Breakfast freshly caught and cooked

Sept 16
Freshly caught and cooked prawns for breakfast was a real treat. Relaxing talking over our travels and Wayne is very well travelled. A retired mechanic, I have not let on I am.
