The Long Drive, North of Geraldton, Seven Mile Beach, Dongara, Port Denison & Cliff Head North Denison,

Dec 6
Up late after my long day yesterday I headed for Geraldton passing wheat fields with small old tractors working in the fields like going back in time. I stopped at an old fashioned petrol station S Bend Caravan Park on the Brand Highway the cheapest petrol and diesel around.

I had to go in to Geraldton for some bottle gas fortunately the gas had run out at a convenient time this very morning what luck. A replacement bottle from Bunnings. Geraldton is a very busy town and after ambling around a few shops buying a loaf of bread    only $3 about £2 instead of the last loaf I brought in Exmouth at £3.20.
I visited Flat Rocks Beach another good Abalone spot (Abalone is a type of sea food) worth many dollars.

I reached my intended night stop Seven Mile Beach a Cray Fishing Area. There are many cars and boats big and small around but I saw no other person only one fishing on the beach in the morning I guess they are out trying to earn a living.

Seven Mile Beach was a good spot to stay the night thank’s to Duke for telling me about these night spots. In the morning the fishing boats came in with their Cray Fish catch a special lorry was ready waiting. The fishermen had to make more than one trip to shore in there dingy as they had a bumper catch.

A late start and on to Port Denison a very attractive well kept fishing town with many fishing boats.

Dongara and Port Denison seem to be very affluent with expensive new architect houses popping up all around green lawns and large Fig Trees lining the roads.

Then on to Cliff Head North my night stop again right on the beach unfortunately masses of seaweed had washed up. Reminded me of Worthing beach when the farmers were allowed to go and collect the seaweed for fertilizer until the council decided to charge them a fee. Consequently in the end it cost the council much money to keep the beaches clean.  They tried to sell it for fertilizer which no one bought.
