The Long Drive Tamala Station to Fig Tree Crossing North Geraldton

Dec 3
We are all ready to roll
Leaving Tamala

A 2 hour drive back to the highway on a dirt road. We all met up at Billabong Road House for fuel and a hearty breakfast no water available here, we all parted and said our good byes. Jimmy and Duke went back to Perth and Sabine and Heinz went on to Coral Bay I took my  time. I decided to try the next road house for fuel and water Billabong Roadhouse no water available here either. My night stop was at Nerren Nerren Rest Area a large site with a few shady spots. I did a few little jobs like connecting my older battery and re-fixed it in Plod which took a little while sawing bits of wood to make the battery firm just in case I decide to go on some more dirt roads.

I ambled around then drove on to the Water Tanks Rest Area by chance I was in luck I filled up my shower tanks with rain water a very slow job indeed so that meant I could have a good shower and hair wash to night.

A few spots of rain nothing to shout home about. I had a look at Galena Bridge (Murchison River) a Rest Area rather a grand place right by the river so I stopped the night a little early in the day but then I had to catch up with this blog, and besides it is the nearest free night spot to Kalbarri a National Park which means I will have all day to explore.

Making my way to Kalbarri through the National Park the first turnoff was to Ross Graham and Hawks Head all sealed roads a small charge was incurred.

Hawks Head a famos view point

Then on to The Nature’s Window another small charge was incurred, a 26 km Gravel Corrugated Road and I might add it was rather rough. I drove to the Look Out first, nothing to shout about. Then on to Nature’s Window a very popular place with many cars and people. Another 7 km drive to the next view point Z Bend by this time of day the sun was pounding down upon me I started to walk the path to the look out I decided a two hour walk was not for me, I had already walked too far today and time was pressing on so I started my trip back to the main road I passed one or two saloon cars on the way back with there rear wheels bouncing up and down like a mad bull bucking at a rodeo.

I eventually arrived at Kalbarri a small well cared for town. I again asked the garages if I could top up with water it was like asking for gold. Fortunately there was a town tap with a dump point so every water container was filed up to the brim and a good shower I will have to night.

There was not time to explore all the costal inlets so I just picked two Bluff Beach and Eagles Gorge

I still had a few kilometers to go for my night stop at The Fig Tree Rest Area just north of Geraldton the country side has changed in to a wheat growing area acres and acres of fields reminded me of England in my younger days collecting up the small straw bails by hand and using old worn out tractors that are seen in museums to day in the U.K
It sure is hard work

I passed The Pink Lake near Port Gregory.  Pharmaceutical companies extract some kind of bacteria and use it in medicine all over the world.

I have now reached Northampton another well kept town.

After a very full day exploring I have reached my night spot at the Fig Tree Rest Area just north of Geraldton a good site with very clean toilets  and BBQ facilities what more could you wish for and even a few large trees not to mention I got extremely good internet reception.
